FEMBS - the SIMPACK-Interface to FE-Tools

FEMBS, the SIMPACK-Interface to finite element programs enables the user to incorporate Finite-Element-models into SIMPACK for the representation of flexible bodies in mechanical systems.

To ensure an optimum calculation speed for entire system models SIMPACK FEMBS generates compact and accurate representations of flexible parts. This is achieved by an approved modal reduction technique which was specifically developed for flexible parts of multi-body systems. Small input files to SIMPACK FEMBS, even in the case of huge FE-models enable an efficient handling of flexible bodies in SIMPACK.

FEMBS supports widespread finite element programs such as ANSYS, MSC.NASTRAN, NX NASTRAN, ABAQUS, PERMAS, IDEAS and ADINA.

For the current example extremely detailed FEM models of the front and rear subframes and chassis were created using NASTRAN. The chassis FE body consisted of over 400,000 nodes with six times as many degrees of freedom. The models were dynamically reduced within NASTRAN and then integrated into SIMPACK using the FEMBS interface.

Correlation of the model to measured data is advisable to obtain confidence in the predictions. This ensures that the data and techniques used are adequate to describe the situation being modelled.

Applications
