Drivetrain

SIMPACK is a general purpose three dimensional Multi-Body Simulation Software, uniquely suited to the analysis and optimisation of any type of drivetrain system. Primarily used for simulating drivetrains within the automotive, wind turbine and railway sectors, SIMPACK can be applied to any field of engineering where power transmission is required.

Being a general purpose simulation software, SIMPACK is particularly well suited for analysing the almost infinite number of potential drivetrain configurations. A user can choose from an extensive library of predefined elements, e.g. detailed gearwheels, universal and constant velocity joints, clutches, synchromeshes, chains, hydro mounts etc. Detailed company specific components, such as bearings and hydro dynamic torque converters, can be either created directly in SIMPACK or imported as software code. Flexible shafts can be modelled either directly within SIMPACK or imported from FE programs. Non-linear bending and the effects of centrifugal forces can also be considered.

The modular structure of SIMPACK models enables easy exchange of components for analyses where various levels of fidelity are required. For example, models containing simple one-dimensional torsional vibration components for rudimentary investigations of initial concept designs can be easily enhanced with detailed three dimensional components as the design becomes more substantial. Multiple load cases with different model variants can be fully automated, including report generation.

The inherent stability and robustness of the SIMPACK solver enables extreme transient manoeuvres where shock contact is involved (i.e. emergency breaking, sudden clutch releases, etc.)
